For what it's worth, I have shipped quite a bit internationally and haven't noticed the shipping costs to be exhorbitant, nor the time it takes to get there. My experience has been with Australia (I send and get a good deal of mail from there), Canada, Italy, Germany, UK.
I HAVE received some packages with green tape printed: "Opened by Homeland Security" - which I think is a hoot, since my custom forms state needlework and/or embroidery with instructions. I'll bet they think those instructions are for bombs.
Forgive my cynicism.
