Yay! You made it :D  Good to see you around here. Thanks for sharing your blog link.  Have you been a longtime "Calvin and Hobbes" fan? I have a friend who loves them, and collects the comic compilation books. I'm sure he'd love to check out your game, too.  How long have you been working on it? And, do you mainly enjoy comic style art?

Thanks for dropping by!  Would love to hear more about your work.

Hey guys!  Welcome back--it's great to see activity at the forums again.  We're looking forward to having you around during the development process and keeping you updated on what's going on, and hearing your feedback!

Angelus, as for the game currently in development, we will definitely be revealing more over the coming months, but still want to keep some details under wraps.  I can tell you though, that this game will appeal to a wider range of fans, as we took into account what the majority of our fans have been asking for, and have catered our game to these tastes.  This game will be more similar to the "Quest for Glory" or "King's Quest" series, being a fantasy style game taking place in a psuedo-medieval setting.  You can play four different classes of characters, too.  We're aiming for higher resolution and detailed 2D animations this time.  The backgrounds are going to be a real treat, too.

Daniel Stacey is the designer of this game, and has gone to great lengths to make a monomyth, or a story following "the Hero's journey", to make the game all the more engaging for the player.  You can learn more about this forumla at the following Wikipedia article:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Monomyth

And Eddie, thank you so much for your support!  We really appreciate it, and yes, every bit helps.  We do hope to continually improve our marketing strategy, so if anyone has any ideas, we're always open to listening to them.

And Patrick, it's good to see you around here again.  We're excited about this game as well.  Like you mentioned, we did gain a lot of experience working on Quest for Glory II--it was our most advanced project to date--and hope to use what we learned from that project to aid us in the development of this game...and with each new project, we continually improve as well!  So this game should definitely please a lot of fans, providing them the gaming experience they've been hoping for for quite some time now.

We can't wait to share more updates in the coming months!!

Hey guys,

I just wanted to let you know, the time has come. This weekend, I'm embarking on an adventure, riding my pedal bicycle from Phoenix, Arizona to Panama City, Panama. It's about 3,500 miles through 8 countries, and I'll be carrying everything on my bicycle. It'll be my home for the next four months.

My friend and I are attempting to raise money for a charity I support, which is the 100 Club. They provide financial assistance to the families of police and firefighters who are seriously injured or killed in the line-of-duty. I used to work for the police department, and spent the past year in private security as an armed guard, and it's a way for me to support the people I care about. If anyone is interested in donating, or knows of anyone who would like to donate, please do such at:

http://www.firstgiving.com/herosquest2008

All donations are tax deductible and 100% goes to the charity. My friend and I are paying for the entire adventure ourselves. We're attempting to raise $50,000 for the cause.

We have an online journal, which we've already started posting in, and will be updating it as frequently as possible with stories and pictures from our journey. You can follow along vicariously at:

http://www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/HQ8

You can also check our official website to find out more about the adventure itself:

http://www.herosquest2008.com

Well, I won't be around much for the next four months as I make my way through the SW of the USA, Mexico, Guatemala, El Salvador, Honduras, Nicaragua, Costa Rica and Panama, but I am looking forward to speaking with you all more when I get back. In the meantime, I wish you all the best!! Please do feel free to spread the word.

Yours truly,

Britney

Everest and August are some very cool names for guides--I wonder if they were real names, or something more akin to an American Gladiators Pseudonym!

Wow, that's impressive that your dad has accomplished all those athletic feats--it seems altitude sickness doesn't care about strength, and can target even the most accomplished of athletes.

That's a really fast pace that you guys kept going to the summit!  No wonder Everest was having a hard time keeping up.  We actually had a friend who climbed Kili, and had to rescue his guide.

That's unfortunate with losing your pictures--but, I guess what's important, is that you keep the memory alive in your own mind.  Although it's nice having proof that you really DID summit the highest freestanding mountain in the world when everyone thinks you're making it up!

So, did you climb Mount Fuji then in Japan? How did you like that compared to Kili?

I'm glad to hear you got to explore Tanzania a bit.  That's sad that the other tourists didn't actually take the opportunity to get to know Tanzania on a more intimate level!  We actually rode our bikes through the country, and didn't run into any problems with the people (other than nearly being beheaded).  The Tanzanians were really friendly, and I think we got a lot more out of the experience by seeing what daily life was really like for the people who live there.

So, we've been told, if you go to Africa twice, you will be back long term at some point.  So if you go back to visit Lake Victoria, plan on a big life change;)

By the way, Chris, I had a dream last night that Theophil was truly a woman! It was the first time EVER I woke up from a dream laughing hysterically!

Thanks for your feedback, Vernon!  I'm glad to hear that you enjoyed so much about "Al Emmo".  Wow, so you won the jackpot not once, but numerous times--that's great!

So, you make music? Do you have any music recorded that you could share with forum visitors?  What type of pieces do you enjoy playing most?

Thanks again for posting your thoughtful feedback regarding the game.

General Forum / Support Climb to Conquer Cancer
January 29, 2007, 12:57:09 PM
Hey guys!

I'm not sure if any of you have been effected by cancer in your life, but I've known a lot of people to succumb to the illness, including my dad, grandma, and my best friends' brother.  I've also have two friends who are survivors.  I'm going to be participating in the "Climb to Conquer Cancer" as a means of honoring them, raising awareness, and raising money for research and quality of life programs for those suffering from cancer.

The hike is going to be at the end of February and will end at the roof top of South Mountain.  Ok, so it's not QUITE the Himalayas, but hey, it goes along with the mountain theme of our company, and our belief that taking things step for step will help us in reaching our ultimate goals (i.e. aiding the adventure genre, helping those with cancer, etc).  The range is a beautiful desert region in Phoenix, Arizona.  You can see a picture of South Mountain here:

http://content.ichotelsgroup.com/destin ... 272_57.jpg

If you have the desire to support the cause, and have the resources, please feel free to donate!  You can access the donation page here:

http://www.acsevents.org/faf/donorReg/d ... =162489129

Also, if you have any family or friends who have had cancer, please let me know, as I'd like to honor them on the hike to the top!

Thanks for your support!

We still can't release that information at this time, sorry to say.  But, I will say, that there are a lot of interesting doors opening and new avenues to get the game out to more people.  We will try to update you on these happenings as they occur.  One of these new avenues was releasing the game on the TellTale website, as you mentioned.  We have a few more things up our sleeves as well :)

I'm so glad to hear you both enjoyed the game, and thank you for your support.  We definitely hope that creating "Al Emmo" helps remind larger companies that people do still love adventure games.  If "Al Emmo" does garner enough interest to make another game, we'd love to work on it...so, please continue spreading the word of "Al Emmo" to any old adventure game fans who you think might enjoy it!

Thanks again :)

Hey sassyladi.  We've promised our contest winners to keep their privacy, unless they decide to send in photos of themselves with their prize package, and a story that they would like posted.  If they would like us to post this information, we will make it available on the official Al Emmo site.  If not, we will respect their privacy, as promised.

Hopefully we'll have some pictures and stories posted in the near future though to whet your appetite!

Aww, that is one of the kindest, most thoughtful, wonderful messages I could have ever received, Eriq.  It means a lot to me, too, because I have so much respect for you as well.  Thank you, thank you.  You inspire me as well...

I am happy to tell you, my boxing arm is slightly injured at the moment, so I will not cause much damage.  :)

Thank you again everybody for the sweet birthday wishes :D

Yes, it's definitely an homage.  Additionally, we chose the name due to our aspirations to climb the world's seven summits (the highest mountain on each of the seven continents).  We've already climbed two, and were working our way up to Everest, which is found in the Himalayas (hence the name).

We always felt that mountain climbing paralleled game development quite well.  Even if you feel that the task is an impossible one, if you just continue to take one step after the other, you will eventually reach the top and finish what you began.

The winners have been selected and were notified privately by email.  We've invited winners to send us photos of themselves and their prize package, and if they give us permission, we'll post those on the site.

The game will arrive within the next 12 weeks.  In saying that, I am not insinuating that shipping will take that long.  It may take that long to prepare the packages and ship them out though.  They will most likely arrive before that time, but *could* take up to 12 weeks.  I wanted to err on the side off too long, so that people would be pleasantly surprised with a package that arrives early than disappointed by one that arrives late.  Hopes this makes sense.

Hey Len,

That is right--the actor was using a Liverpool accent which he said he learned from Ringo Starr himself.  The person who I modelled Kevin after was actually from Liverpool, but sounded Irish--hence, the Irish twist to his accent!

And thanks for the thoughtful comments on the voice acting, Blomvik:)  I'm glad you enjoyed most of them.

I actually really liked the voice of the narrator in GK1 as well, Nightshift and Eriq.  I know the voice bothered quite a few people though, although I was not one of those people who was bothered by it.

I agree with Chris that there is a difference between somebody not liking a character voice, and the actor performing badly.  I know that the squeekiness of Al's voice has annoyed quite a few people, but outside of that, I think that Al's lines were performed superbly.  He's always remains in character, he is believable, and he always emphasizes the right words.  He has a lot of presense.

I agree, Eriq.  I was puzzled by the reviewer's comments at AdventureGamers regarding the music in the game.  I think saying the music is anything less than fantastic would be inaccurate...

I'm not saying this because of bias either.  This is more an integrity issue for me--I feel that it is nearly lying to say that the music isn't downright awesome.  It would be like saying, "chocolate is absolutely disgusting!"  Yea, some people might not like chocolate, but the overwhelming majority absolutely love it.  So, I feel it does a disservice to MOST people who read the review, because if they listened for themselves, I think they'd really enjoy it.  Hopefully they'll disregard those comments in the review and listen for themselves!
